Sotheby’s will sell its first work credited to a humanoid robot using artificial intelligence later this month.

The painting is estimated by Sotheby’s to sell for between $120,000 and $180,000 on 31 October. Fittingly, Sotheby’s will accept cryptocurrency for the transaction. Meller told CBS MoneyWatch that his share of proceeds will be reinvested back into the Ai-Da project.

In a first for Sotheby’s, the famed auction house will sell a painting made by a humanoid robot — and it’s expected to fetch up to a whopping $180,000. The robot, known as Ai-Da, created the painting of renowned mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing entitled “AI God” with its own hydraulically powered hands.

Sotheby's has estimated the painting will go for anywhere between $120,000 and $180,000 at the auction on October 31. In a nod to modern technology trends, the auction house will also accept cryptocurrency for the transaction. Meller has revealed plans to reinvest his share of the proceeds back into further development of the Ai-Da project.
