BSE Sensex, the 30-share benchmark index, surged by nearly 592 points on Monday, driven by gains in IT and banking shares and a positive trend in global markets.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a mildly positive start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 25,085 level, a premium of nearly 35 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The BSE Sensex was trading 564.32 points, or 0.69 per cent, higher at 81,945.68. The NSE Nifty was trading 148.75 points, or 0.6 per cent, higher at 25,113.
