Alabama workers will soon be traveling to North Carolina to assist people affected by Hurricane Helene. The Alabama Department of Public Health will be sending a support team made up of nine people to provide assistance across North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced the deployment of additional assistance to Florida from the Alabama departments of Transportation and Public Health workers to Florida and North Carolina on Friday.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday directed the activation of an Alabama National Guard team to assist in the most heavily impacted areas of North Carolina.The 13-person team consists of 11 Airmen from around the state who serve as Alabama’s Fatality Search and Recovery Team (FSRT).

There are at least 180 deaths from Hurricane Helene so far, and that number is expected to continue climbing, especially in Western North Carolina.

Hurricane Helene ravaged cities and towns in several states, including North Carolina, last month, and leaders have said it could take years to recover.
